On a spiritual note, mental illness was very much in the Bible. It wasn’t called mental illness or depression or bi-polar or schizophrenia. It was called demonic possession or demonic oppression. Anxiety, on the other hand, was simply a state of being worried, afraid or apprehensive…that could be dealt with by trusting God. I will talk about anxiety in a later post. For now, let’s talk God and his definition of what the world sees as ‘mental illness’.
Creeped out yet? Don’t be! God always provides a way out; you just have to follow His direction. Let’s have God speak to you about mental illness. Please understand that mental illness is big business these days to both doctors and Big Pharma. It brings in the bucks. Doctors are prescribing extremely dangerous drug to kids and adults for symptoms that simply don’t warrant the risks. It’s called GREED. Please read the Scriptures below, and tell me what God has to say. These are just a few of many.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. (Psalm 34:17-20)
So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them.(Matthew 4:24)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of Power, and of Love, and of a SOUND MIND. (2 Timothy 1:7)
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)
*******Please do NOT try to get yourself off of any dangerous psychiatric or other addictive medications. Doing it yourself will cause severe withdrawal, stroke, heart attack, seizures and death. You MUST go to a board certified addiction specialist (physician) who can help you with this. If you’re thinking of starting these types of medications, don’t!
